Somehow, someone is stealing the tithes sent by Jews in Rome before they arrive at their intended destination, the Temple in Jerusalem. In the interests of maintaining security and justice, the procurator has assembled a motley crew of locals and Roman citizens to find out just what, in Caesar's name, is happening to God's money.

The last few years have been years of political change throughout Aphonion. The Empire of Tarsh saw bloody civil war when a cadre of nobles rose against the heir to the throne, unsuccessfully as he proved to be stronger than they thought. The Arch-duchy of Canberry, a trade partner with the Empire from another continent also had its aged ruler, Lady Amelia Ashberry, pass on -- to be replaced by her grandson, Alistair, shortly after the unfortunate death of his father in battle. Somehow, during a fete and trade conference in the first year of King-Emperor Jazeol's rule in Tarsh and the last year of Lady Amelia's rule in the Arch-duchy, each kingdom had a powerful and ancient artifact stolen. Only after the ascension of the new Arch-duke did concerns arise about the items stolen however -- particularly that they might be used by the cult following the "Abomination of Shur" to raise their master from his lowly status as a minor power in the Abyss to being a new demon-lord - who might retain an unusual level of access to the material plane.
Both kingdoms, long partners in trade, quickly realized that despite the religious differences between them, which had often precluded closer relations in the past -- preventing the ascension of a new demon lord and regaining the powerful artifacts that would permit such an ascension was vital enough so that they must pool their resources. With the cooperation of the King-Emperor, Lady Katherine (Kit) of Lyneham, special companion to Lord Alastair, sailed with selected members of the Arch-duke's court to Tarsh, and there, together with a functionary of the Master of Assassins for the King-Emperor, briefs a mixed force -- which includes both those that she brought with her -- and members of the King-Emperor's court. Sending out groups to follow a months cold trail, in the hope of preventing a disaster, the two
give the blessings of both kingdoms and both faiths to those sent into the field. Your team is one of those sent.

Miniatures - Dreamblade
The Dreamblade setting takes place in the near future in the dreamscape, the collective unconscious of humanity. Here dream lords spawn creatures from their own subconscious minds to do battle. Since these creatures are dream beings, anything goes. Visually, these miniatures range from the noble to the bizarre, and from the creepy to the intimidating. They’re bigger (40 mm scale) to bring out more detail and to give them more presence on the tabletop. Of course, these original miniatures are all fully assembled and painted. In addition, their stats are right on the base, so you don’t have to consult books or cards in the middle of battle.
The Dreamblade rules streamline setup, movement, and combat, so you move quickly from one strategic decision to the next. To win, you need to know when to do battle and when to control territory. Sometimes you need to go for a quick advantage. Other times you need to sacrifice immediate results for long-term position. The custom attack dice remove the need for charts and tables. These dice also tell you when your creatures’ special “blade abilities” turn on, adding a new dimension to combat beyond just damage. Finally, the unique victory system allows a good player to come back from the brink of defeat and win.
